A speeding BMW car killed a biker and seriously injured three others on Saturday at Sector 22 in Noida. The victim was identified as Gulfam Ali (25) and the injured as Anwar Ali (21), Joginder Singh (44) and Prem Singh (26). The errant driver was identified as Vinod. Additional superintendent of police Gaurav Grover said that Vinod and his two brothers were at large.
“The brother of the accused runs a gym in Sector 22 in Noida. The accused used to visit the gym. Preliminary investigation suggests the vehicle was registered in the name of one Neetu, a resident of Faridabad in Haryana. Vinod, her husband's brother, was behind the BMW wheels at the time of the accident,” Grover said.
"The car was coming from Sector 12-22 crossing and heading towards Adobe intersection when the incident took place. Our team is examining the CCTV footages in and around the area to know if the accused was actually carrying a gun. We have launched a search for the driver," he added.
Eyewitnesses claimed Vinod, who was allegedly drunk, was racing with other cars when the accident occurred. He lost control of the vehicle and first rammed a bike, injuring the bikers-Gulfam and Anwar-and then hit two pedestrians, Joginder and Prem. Even at this point, Vinod failed to apply the brakes and rammed a parked Hyundai Accent. When the passersby surrounded Vinod, he whipped out a pistol and threatened them. "Soon, another car reached the spot and the driver fled in that car," said Samir, an eyewitness. However, police soon seized the vehicle.
Gulfam was declared brought dead at Safdarjung Hospital, his brother Mohammed Talim told TOI. He was earlier taken to Prakash Hospital in Noida where doctors had said that Gulfam had suffered critical head injuries and multiple fractures. The others were taken to Sumitra Hospital in Sector 35, Noida. Doctors have said the next 24 hours are critical for the three.
